Graduate School of Advanced Science and Engineering, Waseda University | Asahi Laboratory
Interdisciplinary researchon matter and life
The laboratory consists of three teams: Biology, Condensed Matter Science and Materials Informatics. Using methods from physical chemistry, biology and data science, we study chirality and optical properties, biomolecules and insects, and statistical modelling for materials design.
Research
Research teams
Each team is organised into groups, each pursuing its own research topics.

Team 01
Biology
Molecular biology, insect, health science, computational biology and cultured meat groups study living systems at the molecular, cellular and organism levels.
- Molecular Biology Group
- Insect Group
- Health Science Group
- Computational Biology Group
- Cultured Meat Group

Team 02
Condensed Matter Science
Optical and electrical properties of matter, centred on thalidomide chirality, simultaneous measurement of optical rotation and birefringence by the HAUP method, and electrochemistry.
- Physical Chemistry Group
- Electrochemistry Group

Team 03
Materials Informatics
Combining experimental data with statistical modelling and machine learning to make materials design and exploration more efficient.
- Materials Informatics Group

Admissions
Graduate admissions
